The Eastern Region have entered a go kart into the Great Gambo
Competition that will be held at the MX5 Owners Club Margam
Park Spring Rally on Sunday 15 May 2005. But, first we have to
build a kart and the plan is to undertake this on Sunday 24
April 2005 in the boat yard of a friendly member.
The plan is to meet at 9.30am at the Tollgate
Retail Park Stanway, west of Colchester, in the McDonalds
carpark (see the map below). We will then take a short drive
down to the boat yard in West Mersea. We hope to be able to get
the bulk of the work done between about 10.00 am and 12.00
noon. All members are welcome to come along and assist or just
spectate. Note that we are not making any specific plans for
lunch but may pop along to the local pub or café if we overrun.
If you plan to come along on
the 24 April please contact me on the address below so we know
who we are waiting for at Tollgate. Note that Geoff Walton will
be away shortly sunning himself for a couple of weeks so contact
me direct. I look forward to hearing from you:

The rules of the competition
state that we have to transport the go kart to the Rally in
MX5s. This is the part where we may all need to help. The go
kart will be built from bits small enough to get in our cars and
then shared out amongst those of us who are going to the Rally,
so we can then reassembly on the day. We have a monthly meeting
before the Rally (Wednesday 4 May) when we will share out the
various components.
If time allows we may do
some road testing before then, and we have also yet to appoint
our designated driver.
